National Agreement to Improve Product Composition
A healthy diet is essential to good health. Europeans are still consuming too much salt, too much saturated fat and too many calories (including sugar). For that reason, the Dutch government and Netherlands business community joined forces ..with the “National Agreement to Improving Product Composition”.
It is not legislation, but a compelling partnership. Why? The struggle to promote better nutrition… …will only achieve results if the battle is waged on all fronts. How? By – step by step – reducing the amount of salt, saturated fat and calories (from sugar and fat) in products. The result? Manufacturers producing healthier products, supermarkets selling these products, the catering and restaurant industry serving them and so,consequently, the consumer gets a healthier diet. The results thus far are very promising. With all the important parties in the food chain and the government joining forces – a unique situation worldwide …the supply of suitable foods will be improved This is a wonderful example of knowledge sharing and constructive cooperation.
Taking import and export considerations for these products into account it is important to take further action at European level. The more countries join, the more effective the result. And now on to a healthier society!
